Learn The Ropes & Make A Decision

The idea behind multi-level marketing (MLM) is simple. Imagine you have a product to sell. A common MLM product is some sort of panacea, such as a vitamin or mineral supplement. You could do what most businesses do: either sell it directly to consumers or find others who will buy your product from you and sell it to other people.

MLM schemes require that you recruit people not only to buy and sell your product, but who will also recruit people who will not only buy and sell your product, who will also recruit people….ad infinite. Only there never is an infinitive to move towards. This may seem unusual to traditional business people.

Why, you might wonder would you recruit people to compete with you? For, isn’t that what you are doing when you recruit people to sell the same products you are selling? MLM magic will convince you that it is reasonable to recruit competitors, because they won’t really be competitors since you will get a cut of their profits. This will take your mind off the fact that no matter how big your town or market, it is finite. The well will go dry soon enough.

There will always be some distributors who will make money in an MLM scheme. The majority, however, must fail due to the intrinsic nature of all pyramid schemes. The reason MLM schemes cannot succeed is because MLM marketing is, in essence, a legal pyramid scheme. The basic idea is for a sales person to recruit more sales persons. This is very advantageous to those who own the company and supply the products, especially since the sales persons in MLMs are also customers.

It is puzzling why a sales person would think it is to his or her advantage to increase the number of competing sales persons. This is not to say there is no benefit to MLM membership. You get certain tax write-offs. You get to buy products, some of which you will be happy with. You get to go to inspirational meetings, some of which will make you feel good. You may meet new friends and you may even make a few bucks.

More than likely, you will end up alienating some family and friends. You will probably end up buying more stuff than you sell, and you will learn a lot about deceiving yourself and others. You won’t be allowed to tell anyone how you are really doing, for example. You will always have to think positive, even if that means lying. You will have to tell anyone who asks that you are doing great, that business is wonderful, that you’ve never seen anything go so fast and bring you income so quickly, even if it isn’t true.

After all of this negativity, you will finally realize that sales and productivity must be balanced by prospecting and recruiting. If you decide to recruit, you need to build a large team that will give you enough residual income so that it doesn’t matter if your recruits give you stiff competition.

When people join an MLM program, they forget this core principal. In order to be truly successful, the new recruit must be ready to work extremely hard in the short term in order to get to the level where it doesn’t matter if his sales are through the roof or not. If the recruit is only doing it casually or as a hobby for a bit of extra money, then sales is the way to go. Multi-level marketing is simple if you grasp firmly on these commonsense rules.

Multi-Level Marketing Programs Don’t Work

People often speak about how multi-level marketing businesses never work. They often speak about how the you are basically making the person above you in your ” pipeline”  get rich, while you do all the hard work.

The truth is, if you manage to stuck it out and put in enough effort to make the system work for you, then who cares what the person above you is earning at the end of the day.

Essentially, if you have enough people below you on your pipeline, then you too would be put in a position to be the guy above for a change. You would be the one looking at your down line and smiling all the way to the bank.
Multi-level marketing (MLM) is one of the most successful systems that have been developed to help people get better prices for the products that they can ordinarily buy from a convenient store, and at the same time they are able to build up a long term residual income for themselves.

It’s a great way to make sure that you will always have money coming in regardless of whether you work or not. Unfortunately, there are a large percentage of people that fail when trying to start up an MLM business. The reason for this is not because the system doesn’t work, but because the person trying to start it has a few setbacks that are preventing them from making a success.

If you think about it, why would there be so many of these companies, if the systems didn’t work? Why then, are there people that are making a fortune every month off these very same systems? The problem almost always lies with the individual, and how they approach their work in the business.

Like all businesses, it requires dedication, belief in the product and belief in one’s self.  Belief in the product is the easy part. All you need to do is look at the people that have already made a success of it, and use that as motivation. The next step is to believe in yourself. If you know that you are capable of doing it and you dedicate your time to making your MLM business work, then you are already two steps ahead of the game.

With a little bit of patience, hard work and dedication you can make your multi-level marketing business work for itself, leaving you with time and money to do the things that you want in life.

Pitfalls in MLM and How to Avoid It

There just isn’t any business with a built-in guarantee for success. The MLM or multi-level marketing, a.k.a. network marketing or relationship marketing business is no different.

Not all who fall in will have the same positive and rewarding experience that you read about in the business opportunity leaflets they hand out. It would be awesome if it was the other way around, but it just isn’t that way. But there are some common pitfalls everyone can avoid in order to have a shot at success in the MLM business.

There are so many MLM companies operating in today’s market, each selling different product lines. Well, not exactly. There are companies that offer the same product lines but offer different profit-sharing schemes. And there are yet companies that offer same products and same compensation strategies.

The point is, you have to do your homework and select the right MLM company to join. Many of those who failed in the business gave no thought to the selection of the right company.

Setting unrealistic target is yet another pitfall to avoid. Just because someone hit $50,000.00 during his first month, which the testimonial literature says, doesn’t mean you’ll be having the same experience.

Granted they aren’t all just exaggeration, but you have to realize that these figures couldn’t be achieved while lounging in your lazy boy and making a few phone calls. It is not even enough that you set a reasonable target, you also have to set a fair amount of time to work on hitting those figures in your target.

There are those that take much liking to the testimonials saying only an hour or two spent each day allowed them to reach such and such income.

If you believe this, you’ve hit another pitfall.

Too often, there are those who quit after only a few months because they aren’t seeing results. And these are people who worked their butts off. You’ve got to realize that as with any business, MLM takes some serious thought and effort.

There is no silver bullet for success in MLM or in any other business for that matter. All kinds of business are with its own risks and returns, disappointments and success. Pitfalls will be there but awareness and taking action allows us to sidestep this blunder and move forward with better chances of succeeding.

To succeed anywhere, you need to keep your wits about you, put up determined effort, and spend time to pursue your goals. This works for MLM, too. If you are willing to pay the price, the MLM business can be a positive, rewarding experience for you.

Multi-Level Marketing: A Complex Business Term?

Multi-level marketing may sound like a complex business term, but is actually just fancy phrasing for something you are already familiar with.

In typical MLM, an individual purchases merchandise from a company at a discounted price in order to sell it for profit. If you are looking for a route to self-employment or want to work from home, multi level marketing may very well be a great option for you, but it may seem very tricky to get started.

One of the easiest ways to scam people out of money is to exploit a dream, and this holds true for the dream of working at home.

Everyone has heard of someone being tricked into believing they had found the key to becoming self-employed only to find that they have been cheated out of huge sums of money. Also, once you get signed up, then what? What should you sell and how do you find customers? When pursuing an MLM opportunity, there are two key ideas to keep in mind: steer clear of scams and develop a realistic sales and distribution plan.

There are very simple ways to avoid being scammed.

First of all, use common sense! If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Specific things to be wary of are high startup costs, high membership fees, and anything that is non-refundable. Secondly, do your research!

Before you invest any money, look up the company online. Read experiences and reviews of past and current representatives (making sure they weren’t published by the company in question).

Some great websites to check before you invest are www.ripoffreport.com and www.scambusters.org.

Once you have done your research and found genuine business opportunities, it is equally important to come up with a plan of action. Choose products that you will actually be able to sell.

When you consider selling something, ask yourself: “Would I buy that?” On the same note, it is crucial to come up with a sales plan. Even a great product is going to sit around gathering dust if nobody knows it is available! One MLM model that is currently very popular is the ‘party.’

The sales representative brings a variety of products to a gathering, either at their own home or a customer’s. After a brief demonstration, the rep. hands out freebies, passes around catalogues, and takes orders.

Not only are these ‘parties’ a great way to sell almost anything, including expensive candles, intimate apparel & toys, makeup, cleaning supplies, and even plastic containers for storing leftovers, but each party helps build your customer base! Another way to sell items is by starting up a retail website.

This can be tricky if you do not have much experience with computers, but with a minimal amount of time and effort, anyone can build a website. Multi-level marketing can be a great way to supplement your income or become self employed, but it might seem impossible to get started. The advice above should help you avoid being scammed and give you an idea of how to succeed once you decide on a company to represent.
